The author disclaims all warranties, expressed or implied,
including, without limitation, the warranties of

PURPOSE
-------
The main and only purpose of this program is to keep track of
each call and enter the call number into your Activity.log(s).
This becomes helpful if you want to give a prize to say the
1200th. caller to your BBS. If you are just curious about who
was caller number 500 you can also look back at your "old" logs
(if you kept them) and will know right away. This program can be
run as part of your "POSTCALL.BAT" or as part of your nightly
event.
What is Shareware?
------------------
Shareware is a form of distribution which gives users a chance to try
software before buying it. If you try a Shareware program and continue
to use it, you are expected to register. Individual programs differ on
details -- some request registration while others require it, some
specify a maximum trial period. With registration, you get anything
from the simple right to continue using the software to an updated
program with printed manual.
Registration
------------
If you find CALLCNT useful and you continue to use it after a reasonable
(10 days) trial period, you are required to make a registration payment
of $5.00 to Larry Edwards. See "REGIS.TXT" for more information.
The $5.00 registration fee will license one copy for use on any one
computer at any one time.
Please fill out the included registration order form (file REGIS.TXT)
and send in your registration today. You can send REGIS.TXT to your
printer by typing:
"COPY REGIS.TXT PRN" (without the quotes)
and then pressing ENTER while at the MS-DOS prompt.
What Do I Get for Registering, and Why Should I?
------------------------------------------------
Here are some reasons why you should register:
o You get unlimited technical support via surface mail or electronic
mail.
o You have the author's ear when it comes to suggesting new features
and capabilities.
o You help increase competition in the software industry by keeping
prices low (shareware doesn't rely on expensive advertising).
o Finally, you can be proud of the honesty and integrity you've shown
in registering the program and having participated in the Shareware
revolution.
UPGRADING FROM PREVIOUS VERSION
-------------------------------
This program should work with the old Activity.logs created by the
previous version. The only difference is in the CALLCNT.CFG file:
Line #2 should now contain the sysops name and NOT the Activity.log
file name, See below.
Installation and Operation
--------------------------
This is very simple, extract "CALLCNT.EXE" into any directory that
contains your Activity."log". You will need to make a file called
"CallCnt.Cfg".
This is where it all begins, 2 simple lines:
100 <- Total number of callers. From your WC 'IDLE" Screen.
Larry Edwards <- The Sysops name.
VERY IMPORTANT!!!
To compensate for the FIRST time read, run "CallCnt", then subtract
the total number of callers in the activity log from line 1 and you
should be correct from there on in and never need to make any more
changes.
To start the program be sure the "Activity."LOG"", CALLCNT.EXE and
CALLCNT.CFG are in the same directory then type "CALLCNT ACTIVITY.xxx".
Where the x's represent the log number to read.
This will read your log, numbering each call and saving the "old"
Activity.log to a file called ACTIVITY.BKx. The x represents the log
file number I.E..Activity.001 becomes Activity.BK1.
This file is deleted each time you run the program so if you want to
save it then move it to another directory.
If you are using a Multi-line BBS and want to run it from the
"POSTCALL.BAT" I recommend something like:
@Echo Off
Call Callcnt Activity.001
Call Callcnt Activity.002
Callcnt Activity.003
By using the "Call" on each line causes "DOS" to come back to the .bat
until the last command is run. You may run this on as many logs as you
have or skip logs you do not want run. If you have a lot of logs to read
and you do not erase them nightly I recommend using this program as part
of your nightly event.
After running the program each entry will have its own number appended
at the end of each callers first line:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
15:59 JON SHERMAN [REGULAR] - Kent, WA at 2400 bps on Sun, 12/13/92 #1
^^
If the number already exists in the log then it will not be incremented.
If no number existed then a new number will be assigned to it.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If the Sysop logged on locally or by calling in then that will be ignored,
so that only new calls will be numbered.
06:24 LARRY EDWARDS [SYSOP] - Tinker Software on locally, Tue, 12/15/92
* 8 Databits:YES, ANSI Detected:YES, MNP:NO, CONF:0, Time Limit:999

* 7 line message left in 004 - Wildcat - MSI Support
* Local Tomcat packet uploaded
06:24 Signed off NORMALLY. Time Logged: 0 with 998 minutes remaining.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
06:28 READY FOR CALLS
Each time the program runs and finds a new call, without a number, it will
automatically increase the total number of callers and keeps that number
in the CALLCNT.CFG file. If an ERROR occurs the program will display the
error on the screen and write it to a file called CALLCNT.ERR, then exit
the program so it will not hang up any batch file it is called from.
I HIGHLY recommend that you copy all the necessary files to a safe
directory and test run the program so you can get the feel of how it
works. Once you are satisfied then run it on your log file and enjoy.

Final Remarks
-------------
Many Thanks to my Wife, Evelyn, for her Friendship, Love, and Support in
every aspect of my life. Especially my addiction to computer keyboards.
Thanks to members of the Association of Shareware Professionals,
especially Paul Mayer and Bob Falk for advice on shareware and for some
of the boilerplate text for my documentation.
Thanks to the people at Mustang Software for making Wildcat BBS.
I've made every effort to provide a safe and stable program, BUT...
If you find errors or additions, please let me know.
